Red Door Church puts on a free soccer camp each summer for kids ages 5 to 12. This year’s camp is scheduled for Sunday, July 9th through Thursday, July 13th. Be sure to register here before the July 4th registration cutoff date.
So why do a soccer camp?
Besides the simple reason that soccer is fun, there are many reasons why we want to put this camp on each year. Here are a few of them:
(1) The bible speaks often of physical activity in a positive light. Paul says in 1 Timothy 4:8: “For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” To exercise our bodies is a good thing in the sight of God!
(2) Like all sports, there are many life lessons to be learned. Learning to follow the rules (2 Tim. 2:5), to play on a team (Phil. 2:3), to do our best (1 Cor. 10:31), and what it means to win and lose in an honorable way. “Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles, lest the Lord see it and be displeased…” (Proverbs 24:17-18).
(3) Being in the outdoors is good medicine for the soul because it can point us to God. The Bible often speaks of how all of nature is declaring the glory of God (Psalm 19:1; 96:11-12; 104:24-25). Often it is when we are outdoors enjoying creation that our hearts are moved to worship. We see this in Psalm 8: “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens… When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
(4) Soccer camp is one way we can love our neighbors. We love our community and this camp is one way we can show that to them! Most of all, we can show love to our community by sharing the life-chaging, earth-shattering message of Jesus with them. Jesus loves South Royalton and all of the Upper Valley and we desire for them to know that more than anything. Jesus once said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
For all of these reasons and many more, we invite you to come to our soccer camp!
